At the beginning of the research, creatively, I was looking at a blank canvas, feeling uninspired and unsure. After initially exploring some stiff and rigid making attempts with clay , that were not flowing, I turned to drawing and mark making with charcoal, in order to feel some way productive. I noticed an accumulation of charcoal crumbs becoming a nuisance to my white pristine pages. I decided to embrace them and began to swipe each crumb on the page. This resulted in lively marks that were dynamic and danced on the sheet, the physical movement and freedom of making marks this way evoked a spark of joy and playfulness. This moment set in motion the idea of play through mark making to explore attaining the flow mind state and more importantly ,letting materials create there own path, not to get in the way or over impose my will ,but, have a conversation and let go of control. As I crushed the stick of charcoal, chaos unfolded, pieces fell and found random resting places. The unpredictable arrangements, along with the pressure of my finger tips to encourage direction, determined the drawings fate, through which I considered and explored the idea of complex or the hidden order existing in chaos.
