For this series of mark making explorations I used water soluble graphite putty. Like clay, the graphite moulded to the imprint of my hand and finger prints. I lay water on the pages, letting it find its own way , like invisible ink . I squeezed the graphite in my hand, shaped the lump, impressed and rubbed the page, I sculpted coils and rolled the material. The invisible ink revealed itself in the process, producing deeper marks, creating abstract impressions and compositions, suggestive of vessel. To me they felt like x rays of physical matter, capturing the memory of movement.
